Free Training in Eugene, Oregon

Topic:

Building Alliances to Amplify the Voice of Mental Health Clients:

Drawing on the Strengths of the Cross-Disability Movement to Empower  
Mental Health Consumers/Survivors

When: Thursday, 11 June 2009. This is a half-day training from 1 pm to  
5 pm.

Where: Downtown Athletic Club, 999 Willamette Street, Eugene,  Oregon

Presenters:

** Bjo Ashwill, MS, LPC - Counselor for Lane Independent Living  
Alliance (LILA).

** Tracey Dumas, PhD - Psychiatric survivor, co-founder of Opal  
Network, founder of VALID: Violence and Abuse in the Lives of  
Individuals with Disabilities.

** David Oaks - Psychiatric survivor, and director of MindFreedom  
International.

** Claire Seminara, MApc, CPRP - Mental Health Professional/ 
Professional Counselor at LILA.

** Introduction by: Robert Bernstein, PhD Executive Director, Bazelon  
Center, Washington, D.C.

For two years, the Opal Network has met quarterly to support the  
empowerment and self-determination of Lane County mental health  
clients. This training is to teach attendees how to replicate this  
exciting, successful collaboration state-wide.

This event is meant for leaders and emerging leaders, especially:

* Mental health consumers and psychiatric survivors.

* Cross-disability agencies.

* Cross-disability consumers.

* Any agency or professional who works with mental health clients.
