Three (3) *brief* NEWS ALERTS for a nonviolent revolution in the
mental health system:
~~~~~~~~~~
1) NEWS & PHOTOS OF ELECTROSHOCK PROTESTS IN TORONTO, MONTREAL,
IRELAND
Brief news reports and photos of the three grassroots protests
against electroshock held last week in Toronto, Montreal & Ireland
are on the web here:
http://www.mindfreedom.org/as/act/inter/mfire/mf-ireland-electroshock
Organizers chose Mother's Day for the protests to educate the public
about how electroshock doctors overwhelmingly are targeting mothers
and grandmothers.
2) URGENT: NATIONAL MEDIA SEEK COURAGEOUS PARENT OF DRUG-FREE
CHILD LABELED 'BIPOLAR'
A major national media outlet has contacted MindFreedom. To have both
sides of a story, they are urgently searching for a parent to
interview. Please read the following criteria. If there is an *exact*
match, e-mail details and contact info *soon* to news at mindfreedom.org:
Criteria: The parent must have a child between ages of 6 to 17 who
has been labeled by a mental health professional as "bipolar," but
the family has chosen NOT to use any psychiatric drugs, or has tried
but abandoned all psychiatric drugs.
3) "CREATIVE REVOLUTION IN HEALING" FULL
The MindFreedom conference/retreat in July about creating
alternatives to the conventional mental health system has reached
capacity for general admission two months before the event. MFI no
longer has space for regular registration.
The conference planning committee is looking into ways for a few more
people to attend by staying at a local motel. Watch the MindFreedom
web site for announcements about that. For those who registered very
recently you will be notified about your status. See the web MFI site
for more info and updates.
Info about the MFI conference/retreat is here:
MindFreedom is for people who care about human rights who want to unite!
MindFreedom is a nonprofit human rights group that unites 100 sponsor
and affiliate groups with individual members, and is accredited by
the United Nations as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with
Consultative Roster Status.
MindFreedom is one of the very few totally independent groups in the
mental health field with no funding from governments, drug companies,
religions, corporations, or the mental health system. While most of
MindFreedom's members are psychiatric survivors, *all* who support
human rights are invited to join and become active leaders.
