    (1) MindFreedom Reply to Call for "More Money" for Mental Health  
in Poor Countries

Today, media are widely covering a news story about global mental  
health.

Lancet, the widely-respected medical publication, published a study  
calling for more money for mental health services in poor developing  
countries. World Health Organization promptly put out an endorsement  
today of this call for more money.

    (2) The Parental Consent Act of 2007: Support HR 2387!

Once more, the USA Congress is considering a bill to help protect  
families from being pressured by schools to screen young people for  
mental health problems.

And once more, MindFreedom is issuing an alert to encourage all USA  
citizens to contact your congressional delegation and support this  
important bill. In the past, the bill has sailed through the US  
House, but has gotten stuck in a US Senate committee now run by

    (5) Opinion: Psychiatric Survivor Inside a Police Training  
Conference

An anonymous psychiatric survivor who is a MindFreedom member  
attended a major national conference about training the police for  
dealing with citizens labeled with mental health problems.

In this exclusive inside view, the author warns of a rising  
"paramilitary" between police and the mental health system. This  
psychiatric survivor concludes, "Be afraid, be very afraid!"

   (6) MindFreedom Youth VOICES FOR CHOICES in mental health.

MindFreedom is focusing on youth and mental health in special  
campaign called VOICES FOR CHOICES.

If you are interested in participating, let us know. Youth and "ex- 
youth" are both invited, and leadership by youth is especially  
encouraged.

The campaign begins in Lane County, Oregon, but anyone can  
participate. Contact MindFreedom Youth Coordinator Martin Rafferty at  
office at mindfreedom.org.

TOMORROW is the next local meeting, with a special youth panel of  
psychiatric survivors: The MindFreedom Monthly Free Mind RoundTable  
on Wednesday, 5 September 2007, 5:30 pm, by the MindFreedom office.  
The panel will include Skye, a teen who was featured in a recent  
nationally-televised reality TV show.
